Aveiro 2024 celebrates one year of activity with special closing ceremony

On 29 December, at 4.30pm, the special ceremony to mark the end of Aveiro 2024 - Portuguese Capital of Culture will begin. Aveiro City Council and Mayor José Ribau Esteves invite the entire Aveiro community to join this ceremony, which includes two highlights: a piano recital and a multidisciplinary outdoor show, both with free admission.

At 4.30pm, pianist Marta Menezes will take to the stage of the Aveirense Theatre's Main Hall for an exciting recital entitled Um Piano Português (A Portuguese Piano). The show explores the Portuguese musical legacy, with works by composers such as José Vianna da Motta, Alfredo Napoleão and Luiz Costa. This intimate moment showcases the wealth of Portuguese classical music and highlights Aveiro's commitment to preserving and publicising its cultural heritage. The concert is free, subject to capacity, and tickets can be collected at the Aveirense Theatre until the 28th at the box office.

At the end of the day, at 6pm, the streets of Aveiro will be transformed into an open-air stage with the show Cenários Infinitos, a creation by the acclaimed German company Theater Titanick with the local community. This multidisciplinary show - an artistic parade conceived for Aveiro 2024 by a company renowned for its large-scale scenic machinery and immersive narratives - will invite reflection on the human capacity to imagine and create, marking the end of the year as a starting point
