Estúdios Victor Córdon bring Território program to Teatro Aveirense

Aveiro hosts the seventh edition of Território, a contemporary dance program for young dancers, with pieces by choreographers Akram Khan and Jermaine Spivey. The performance will be on July 23rd, at 9:30 pm, at Teatro Aveirense.

This show is part of program for Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture and features an excerpt from Kaash, one of the best-known choreographies by British-Bangladeshi Akram Khan. The piece, which premiered in 2002 and whose name in Hindi means “if only”, combines contemporary dance with kathak (classical Indian dance), exploring elements of the Hindu god Shiva.

The performance also includes BETWEEN OUTSIDE AND ME, by American choreographer and dancer Jermaine Spivey, who was a member of Ballet Gulbenkian and is currently an associate artist at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. The work aims to take dancers out of their comfort zone, mentally and physically, through multiple tasks to be performed without rest.

The film Rebento, a work by João Sanchez, aged 26, will also be shown, addressing the theme of reruns. In 2023, this director won the Território | Estúdios Victor Córdon prize, in the Best National Director category, at the InShadow — Lisbon ScreenDance Festival.
Created by Estúdios Victor Córdon, Território is a program aimed at dancers between 14 and 18 years old from dance schools across the country. Young people go through a selection and audition process to join the show.

The initiative invites, every year, an established choreographer and an emerging one to share their works. Over the course of several seasons, the Território program has welcomed more than 80 young people from across the country, coming from around 40 dance schools in more than 30 cities.
