Festival dos Canais with a very positive outcome

Festival dos Canais had an extremely positive outcome. Organized by the City Council of Aveiro, the event featured a program that involved more than 100 presentations with artists from nine countries, including 12 premieres, with public’s participation being the highest ever.

The event's 13 stages, spread across various parts of the city, hosted shows from various artistic areas, including street theater, new circus, dance, music, performance and other expressions. It should be noted that the Festival dos Canais was once again held in its original model, with five consecutive days of programming, returning to what was practiced before the restrictions related to the pandemic, since it was never interrupted in the worst years of that period.

José Ribau Esteves, Mayor of Aveiro, highlights “the expressive participation of the public in an event with such diverse proposals, proof that the strategy outlined by the Municipality for culture is having clear results, meeting not only the Aveiro spectators as well as a significant number of visitors, including several representatives of international festivals, programmers and creators”.

A highlight of this edition was also the presence of several companies and artists from the Basque Country, as a result of a partnership established in 2022 with the Government of the Basque Country. Their visit to Aveiro also enabled this delegation to meet with national agents in the field of street arts in order to establish future partnerships and collaborations.

The Festival dos Canals returns in 2024, the year in which Aveiro will be the Portuguese Capital of Culture, taking place from the 17th to the 21st of July.
