Choreographer Catarina Miranda presents her new show, ATSUMORI, at Teatro Aveirense, a dance piece inspired by a noh theater work, with dancers interacting on a bright stage. The show, an initiative by Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture, will take place on June 8th, at 9:30 pm.
This work by Catarina Miranda, one of the most original creators of Portuguese contemporary dance, is based on a Japanese piece written by Zeami Motokiyo in the 15th century, in which the ghost of a child warrior returns to the battlefield to avenge his own death.
The creator studied this piece in Kyoto, in 2018, and was inspired by it to develop her own narrative, addressing loss and the beginning of cycles, as well as the attraction to the unknown. The quintet of dancers uses claps, whistles, sparks, whispers and vocal calls, through a ritualistic and rhythmic choreography.
The show features a play of shadows in which stage light, developed by Letícia Sckrycky and Joana Mário, plays an essential role and is amplified by Lechuga Zaphiro's musical composition.
