A new edition of Festival dos Canais

Festival dos Canais is back. An unprecedented concert that brings together the musician Castello Branco, the singer and composer Garota Não, the Palco Central school and the Coro Santa Joana collective (from Aveiro), as well as performances by Mariza and Resistência, the show "ACQUA FORTE, a phantasmagoria on the water” by the French company Ilotopie, “The Air Between Us” by Chloe Loftus & Rodney Bell, are some of the highlights of this edition of the event, which will take place in Aveiro between the 17th and 21st of July. Organized within the scope of Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture, the festival has sustainability as its backdrop.
For five days, Aveiro will be the capital of street arts, with music, street theater, dance, a new circus, activities for children, gastronomy, among other initiatives. A diverse program for different audiences.

Arts and shows
The artistic program includes four unique shows on water, two of which are new. "Derivas na Ria", commissioned by Aveiro 2024 to André Braga, Cláudia Figueiredo and Companhia CIRcoLando, invites the audience to a journey through the Aveiro lagoon, harmoniously mixing memories and fiction. "ACQUA FORTE, a phantasmagoria on the water", created by the prestigious French company Ilotopie, is another unmissable show.

The festival also presents "Sliding Slope" by Hellend Vlak, a reflection on climate threats, and the installation "Cygnus", which will illuminate Cais da Fonte Nova.

It will also be possible to enjoy two international shows with artists in wheelchairs: "The Air Between Us" by Chloe Loftus and Rodney Bell, and "Frock" by Stopgap Dance Company.

Activities for everyone
The festival once again offers two of its most emblematic locations: Sala de eSTAR, equipped with household furniture, and Funky Beach, an urban beach with sand, both providing bar services, shows and DJs. The Play Garden will also be a welcoming space full of activities, this one for children and families.

Gastronomy and music
Gastronomy and music will be side by side from July 19th to 21st, with the Chefs On Fire event. It will be possible to watch demonstrations by renowned chefs cooking over slow heat, enjoying their recipes to the sound of songs by Pedro Mafama, Rita Vian and Moullinex. Tickets for this gastronomic event are available on the official Chefs On Fire website.

Artistic and international meetings
The festival will also be a meeting point for artists, art companies and organizers of national and international festivals, highlighting the presence of representatives from European festivals, including the Basque Country Festivals and the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival in London. This exchange is the outcome of a partnership between Aveiro City Hall and the Government of the Basque Country, with the aim of fostering future collaborations.
