Second quarter of Teatro Aveirense has an intense activity
Published at — 28 March 2024
Concerts, theatre plays, dance shows, a multimedia installation and a new festival are some of Teatro Aveirense's proposals for the months of April to June. In the year in which Aveiro is the Portuguese Capital of Culture, its programme is carried out under the same theme as the second quarter of Aveiro 2024, “Culture and Democracy”, bringing together proposals in which values such as freedom, activism, integration and multiculturalism will be very present.
In theater and performance, some of the highlights include shows such as “Idiota” by Marlene Monteiro Freitas, “Fado Alexandrino”, by Nuno Cardoso/Teatro Nacional São João, “Quis Saber Quem Sou”, by Pedro Penim/Teatro Nacional D Maria II and “Código Postal”, by Marcos Barbosa.
As for dance, there will be “MUDA”, by Clara Andermatt, “Atsumori”, by Catarina Miranda, and “Shechter / Wellenkamp / Naharin”, by Companhia Nacional de Bailado, among other proposals that will liven up the stages of Teatro Aveirense.
In the music field, attention turns to Moonspell's acoustic tour, entitled “Soombra”, as well as Pedro Mafama's return to Aveiro. But there is still room for the Aveiro_Síntese biennial, dedicated to electroacoustic music, which will feature more than a dozen concerts.
The highlights of Teatro Aveirense also include the debut of a festival where art, politics and thought intersect, the “New Deal of Arts And Democracy”, held in partnership with Sarajevo Fest and curated by Bosnian director and playwright Haris Pasovic. Finally, a highlight for the opening of a multimedia installation by Paulo Mendes that addresses the universe and history of mining prospecting in Portugal.
