Teatro Aveirense starts 2025 with important proposals

Teatro Aveirense begins 2025 with proposals from nationally and internationally renowned artists in areas such as music, theatre, dance, activities for families and schools, as well as training activities.

Among the many established names to look out for in the coming months as part of the TA's programme are Clara Andermatt, who will present a dance show focusing on the female universe and reinterpreting Iranian dance, poetry and music, marking the 144th anniversary of the Teatro Aveirense; Paulo de Carvalho, who will bring to Aveiro a show featuring his songs and the stories that gave rise to them; and José Pedro Gomes and Aldo Lima, with a new look at the play Amigos da Treta.

Also noteworthy is the play by renowned Brazilian actress Cláudia Raia, about the 50+ woman, which portrays situations experienced by women in their ‘second act’ of life; the presentation of the latest album by Portuguese guitarist and guitar specialist Marta Pereira da Costa and the latest work by producer and composer João Barbosa, better known as Branko; and the concert by Mão Morta, who bring to the TA stage a show that combines pre-25 April Portuguese intervention music, rock and experimentalism.

The Aveirense Theatre's programme also includes two leading figures in European theatre. Chiara Guidi and Armando Punzo, both Italian, are known for focusing on very specific fields of creation: Guidi on theatre for children and Punzo on theatre production with prisoners. Different approaches, but both with dazzling results - both for the creations themselves and for the depth of their purpose - as can be seen in the shows they will be bringing to the Aveirense Theatre, with Chiara Guidi's proposal involving the participation of the local artistic community.

We should also highlight three creations that will certainly mark the season: Winter Solstice, by the Teatro da Cidade company; Sul, by the A Turma company - and with performances by actors such as Virgílio Castelo -; and Refugiado, by actor and director Paulo Matos, who created the play with the aim of depicting the life of the refugees.

The connection with schools will once again be part of the Aveirense Theatre's programme, with three activities aimed exclusively at this audience: Ars ad Hoc - Audições comentadas, a concert for students to listen to different musical works, accompanied by comments from members of the Aveirense cultural association Arte no Tempo; the show O que é Um Problema, which brings together on stage two dancers, one of whom is also an artist, and a musician; and the play 25 de abril de 1974, by the Mala Voadora company, directed by Jorge Andrade.
This start to the new year is also an example of the desire to maintain some of the great hallmarks of the Aveirense Theatre's programming, such as the New Year's Concert, as well as the New Thursdays series, dedicated to emerging musicians, The Films of Our Tuesdays, specialising in auteur cinema, and Music at School, aimed at captivating young audiences.

Teatro Aveirense is part of the RTCP – Rede de Teatros e Cineteatros Portugueses.
