A Reflection on Migration with Virgílio Castelo in the Cast

The Aveirense Theatre is hosting a show dedicated to the theme of migration. Sul, by the A Turma company, written and directed by Tiago Correia, with the actor Virgílo Castelo in the cast, will be performed on 28 March at 21.30.

The main character is Michelle, a French girl of Portuguese descent who comes to Portugal to look for a man who may be her biological grandfather, and is confronted not only with the mysterious contours of his existence, but also with the harsh reality of a community of migrants from the south of the country. A contemporary tragedy built on the structure of an intergenerational family drama about trauma, abandonment and separation.

Sul is the second part of a theatrical diptych dedicated to migration, starting from the Portuguese experience to question the current reality. While O Salto took us back to the 1960s and 1970s to evoke the tragic and emotional experience of leaving the country for an unknown Europe, Sul raises a broader question about memory (or forgetting) and the transience of contemporary human relationships.
